Frequently Asked Questions

IFA Direct Service – what do we provide and how does it work?

We work with more than 50 top financial advisor firms across the UK and offer free initial consultations to people looking for financial advice across a wide range of financial fields. Our aim is to connect you with a locally based financial advisor, who can help you with your enquiry. And, because all the financial advisor firms we work with are FCA regulated and carefully vetted by us you can be sure that you will receive professional and unbiased advice.

Why do you ask for my postcode and contact details?

We ask you for your postcode so we can match you with a financial advisor who is close to you. Many IFAs offer face-to-face meetings so it’s important we match you with an IFA who is within travelling distance of your location. We ask for your phone number so that the IFA can get in contact with you and we ask for your email address so that we can send you a profile of the advisor firm prior to them contacting you.

What happens to my information after I have provided it?

We store your information securely and we never share it with any third parties other than the IFA we match you with. We have carefully vetted all the IFAs we work with and they are all FCA regulated.

What happens after I enter my details?

Once you have submitted your details we match you with one of our financial advisors based on your postcode and the service you have selected. We then send you a profile of the financial advisor firm so that you can read about them prior to the call. Your financial advisor will then be in contact with you, either by phone or by email, usually the same day or within 24 hours. If you enter your details outside of working hours your financial advisor will be in contact the next working day.

Is this service free?

Yes. The service we provide is completely free and your first consultation with your financial advisor will also be free. If you choose to take the advice of your financial advisor and instruct him or her to carry out work for you there will usually be a charge, in the form of a fee. This can vary depending on the type of service you are looking for but in most cases the benefits of the financial advice will far outweigh the fee charged. Any fees will be fully outlined to you before you decide to proceed.

Why should I speak to an independent financial advisor?

Whether you are looking to review or transfer your pension, plan for your retirement, release equity in your home, or invest funds a financial advisor can search the market for the most appropriate service for you and advise you on the best course of action to make you financially better off.

What is the FCA?

The Financial Conduct Authority (the FCA) is an independent public body which regulates the financial services industry in the UK. It ensures consumers are protected and treated fairly and monitors which firms are able to enter the financial markets, ensuring standards are met before the firm is authorised.

Why should I speak to a regulated advisor?

When speaking to a financial advisor it is important to make sure they are FCA regulated. In order to operate in the financial markets a regulated financial advisor has to be compliant with FCA regulations and, in the rare event that you do experience any issues with your financial advisor you can take action through the FCA. At IFA Direct Home we only match you with FCA regulated financial advisors.

What is the difference between an Independent Financial Advisor (IFA) and a restricted advisor?

Independent Financial Advisors (IFAs) can offer the full range of products and providers available while Restricted Advisors have chosen to offer ‘restricted advice’ and will focus on a limited selection of products and/or providers. Both types of financial advisors are qualified exactly the same and both will provide unbiased advice. At IFA Direct Home we offer both Independent Financial Advisors (IFAs) and Restricted Advisors.

What is an annuity?

You can use some or all of your pension pot to purchase an annuity, which will provide you with taxable income during your retirement. There are many different types of annuity products available, including a lifetime annuity and a fixed term annuity.

What is a pension drawdown?

Income drawdown allows you to re-invest your pension pot in order to receive regular income during your retirement. However, the amount of income you will receive will vary depending on the performance of the investments and it isn’t guaranteed for life.

What is equity release?

Equity release allows you to release some or all of the equity tied up in your home. There are different types of schemes on the markets and you also have the option to ring-fence some of the value of your home to leave as inheritance for your loved ones.

What is inheritance tax?

Inheritance Tax is paid on the assets left behind when someone dies. If a person’s assets are left to a spouse, no inheritance tax is applied, but if they are left to friends and family and their value exceeds a certain amount the beneficiaries could be liable to inheritance tax.

Find A Local Financial Advisor

While IFA Direct Home take every care in making their recommendation, any contract or agreement is between the selected financial advisor and the client. IFA Direct Home cannot be held liable for any failure on the part of either of the parties concerned. We provide access to both fully Independent Financial Advisors (IFAs) and Restricted Advisors and refer to both types of advisors as a 'Financial Advisor' throughout this website. Both types of advisors provide 100% unbiased financial advice. This means that in the event the advisor is unable to provide a better product then the advisor's recommendation would be to do nothing. IFA Direct Home is not authorised or regulated by the FCA.
